Setting the Scene
Holly and Ed had been in our diary for over 2 and 1/2 years and finally, we got to photograph their day at the absolutely stunning Abbeywood Estate in Cheshire. These are two of the loveliest of people you will ever meet and were so easy to work with on their day. The woodland setting at Abbeywood, in its 45 acres, really oozes a wonderful, calm, relaxed atmosphere and the guests absolutely loved wandering around the incredible gardens with exotic shrubs, wildflowers, ornate pond (with huge fish) and the most wonderfully fragrant flower beds.
The Orangery at Abbeywood is a stunning glass house with blinds and roof fans for the warm summer days and plenty of beautiful outdoor space for the guests to congregate and take in the wonderful outdoor spaces. Holly and Ed had chosen a striking red and white colour theme for their day and the huge table centre pieces looked elegant and stunning.
Ahead of Schedule
Holly and her 6 bridesmaids were all getting ready in the bridal prep room when we arrived and with Holly being super organised, they were all well ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, upstairs in the Bridal Suite, with all of their ties and buttonholes all lined up on the bed, Ed was chilling with his Best Man, cousin Josh, having a few beers and taking things easy before his groomsmen arrived.
Outdoor Ceremony
As the weather was a pleasantly warm 21/22C it was decided that the ceremony would take place outside and with such panoramic views across the Cheshire countryside, a perfect setting for Holly and Ed to tie the knot. The guests took their seats and, with live singer Josh for musical accompaniment, the bridesmaids and groomsmen walked arm in arm between the trees down to the ceremony area where Ed stood patiently waiting for his bride. Holly, who looked incredible, was escorted down the aisle by her mum Andrea and all three of them had an enormous hug as Holly reached Ed’s side.
As the Ceremony ended all the guests lined up along the trees with confetti in hand, ready to greet the newlyweds and shower them in dried petals. Then it was time for drinks on the lawn and ice cream from Posh Scoops with flavours chosen by the bride and groom, with bespoke wafers too.
The Magical Forest
After a few formal bridal party and family shots (with some not-so-formal groomsmen) we disappeared for a short time with Holly and Ed for some portrait photos in the forest with huge pine trees and a bed of soft ferns, such a magical place. Ed and Holly are so natural together and just chatted and laughed as they walked around as we photographed them in this beautiful environment.
Then it was time for the Wedding Breakfast in the stunning Orangery followed by speeches from Ed, Holly’s mum and the very entertaining Best Man Josh. As the evening sun was still warm most of the guests relocated to the many beautiful outdoor areas whilst some chose to wander through the extensive gardens and woodland.
The Grand Finale
Holly and Ed set their hearts on a smoke bomb photo so with the help of their bridesmaids and groomsmen we headed off to the maze for a dramatic multi-coloured shot as the sun was starting to set. Later on, after some great dance floor action, we all returned outside for sparklers with guests forming a tunnel with long gold-coloured sparklers giving the newlyweds a grand finale to their day!
