A very Grand Place for a Wedding

Poppy and Rob scoured the North West of England looking for the perfect location for their wedding and finally, they found it and it’s clear to see why……..Samlesbury Hall is simply stunning!

This Grade 1 Listed, 700 year old black and white privately owned historic house is set in the heart of rural Lancashire. As you drive up the path through the enormous trees you start to see glimpses of the very striking hall. Tucked away in the grounds are an Italian courtyard, rosarium and ancient woodland too.

Exclusively for weddings, is a secret and very private Lodge, adventure playground, complete with Pirate Ship (great for entertaining the groomsmen before the ceremony). What you don’t expect, at the far end of the car park is a wildflower field with a path leading to 29 randomly placed, vibrantly coloured Shepherd’s Huts, perfect, if a little bit quirky, overnight accommodation for guests.

Dancing, Pastries and Prosecco!

Poppy started her day, along with her 4 bridesmaids and mum Judy upstairs in the main house, later on relocating to the very well-appointed Lodge. Sara from Sara Aspinall Make Up was there to make sure Poppy and the ladies looked their best and there was constant chatter and laughter all morning with dancing, pastries and plenty of Prosecco!

Meanwhile, Rob, his groomsmen and Best Man Aidan, settled into the Billiard Room with suits, shoes and beers to pot a few shots on the snooker table. As the guests arrived, the Great Hall started to fill up as everyone took to their seats. Poppy’s dad wore a very fetching blue tartan kilt, representing Aberdeen, where Poppy was born. Rob and the boys also turned out well, following the theme with blue and grey tweed waistcoats and suits.

The Great Hall

As Rob waited patiently at the front of the Hall with Aidan at his side, Poppy and her bridal party walked up the path to the Great Hall, you could hear the laughter in advance! The pretty delicate pastel-coloured flowers, including Poppy’s favourite peonies, looked really beautiful and complemented the vases of floating candles lining the aisle, giving an extra elegant touch to the very grand surroundings. The Ceremony was really lovely, especially in such an atmospheric room, with plenty of laughter and happy tears too.

After a confetti tunnel, an aerial group photo and mouthwatering canapés on the front lawn, it was time for family photos with the florally-decorated main doorway as the backdrop. With the lovely warm July weather, everyone was happy to relax and mingle outside in the sunshine before being called into the Great Hall, which had been transformed into a stunning dining room. On the menu was a very Northern delicacy … pie, chips and mushy peas….. fantastic choice and very popular with the guests too!

A Stunning Sunset

As we snuck off with the newlyweds for some portrait photos we found streams of beautiful soft dappled light coming through the trees in the rosarium and then, later on, a stunning sunset over the multi-coloured huts. After freshly made pizza and huge gooey doughnuts, it was time to hit the dance floor with live music from The Kickstarts. With an incredible range and great vocals, the band kept everyone on their feet for hours, especially the bride’s dad’s family who couldn’t resist ‘pogoing’ to the ’70s classics!

The Perfect End to a Perfect Day

As the evening progressed into twilight, the bridal party lit pink and green smoke bombs on the front lawn, creating a multicoloured fog surrounding Poppy and Rob… it looked amazing! Then after just one last tour of the dance floor to capture some more of the crazy dance moves, we took Poppy and Rob outside the, now floodlit, hall for a photo and lasting memory of their perfect day!
